The Science Behind Printing Presses – Children’s Workshops for Science Week

Join us on Sunday 15 November for special workshops at the National Print Museum to celebrate Science Week. Ever wondered what the science is behind all the printing presses and working machines of the Museum collection? Guided by Dr Niamh Plunkett, you’ll learn about some of the principles behind the Monotype keyboard and the Heidelberg Platen printing presses.

How do they move? What’s connected to what? What science tricks are used to make them work smoothly – and keep running for years and years? How is the technology they used linked to modern day computing and modern 3D printing? What are they made from? These are some of the questions these workshops will answer…

2 workshops available, beginning at 12:00 and 13:30

8 children in each workshop, age 8+
