The Museum is delighted to host a virtual talk by Dr Dermot McGuinne: The Rome irish printing type, an account of the journey of detection involved in uncovering the whereabouts of the elusive punches for the Rome irish printing typeface of 1676 and the creation of a detailed record of this important material.

Brief biography of Dr Dermot McGuinne
Dr Dermot McGuinne gained his primary degree and early experience as a graphic designer in the United States where he later held the position of Art Director of the University of Iowa Press and Publications Department. He was awarded his doctorate from Trinity College Dublin for work completed on the subject of the “Irish Character in Print” and is author of Irish Type Design and various articles on this topic.
He is a retired senior lecturer and Head of Departments of Fine Art and Visual Communication Design at the Technological University of Dublin. He presently serves on the Curatorial Committee of the National Print Museum of Ireland.
