Description

This is one of the most important printed documents In Irish history. This proclamation was printed on Easter Sunday 1916 to be used in the planned Easter Rising: a rebellion began by a group of revolutionaries attempting to gain Ireland's independence from Britain. It was typeset by two compositors, Liam O'Briain and Michael Molloy, and printed by Christopher Brady on a Wharfedale printing press. Between 1,000 and 2,500 copies of the proclamation were printed, with around 30 known to have survived to today. One of the copies of the proclamation was read aloud from the steps of Dublin's General Post Office by signatory Pádraig Pearse on the morning of the Rising, 24 April 1916.
