New Documentation Project & Heritage Week Event

The National Print Museum is delighted to announce that it has been awarded funding under The Heritage Council’s Community Grant Scheme 2025 for an important Documentation Project.
In 2024, the Museum was fortunate to receive funding from The Heritage Council to hire a Collections Officer – marking the first appointment of dedicated collections staff in the Museum’s nearly thirty-year history. This initiative proved to be a significant success, driving the modernisation of documentation processes across the institution. The experienced Collections Officer conducted thorough research and developed a strategic roadmap for continued project work, offering several key recommendations to advance the overall initiative.
The next phase of the project focuses on four primary objectives: the migration of the collection into Axiell collections management software; integrating the software with the Museum’s website to make the collection publicly accessible; and digitising the paper archive. This project represents a crucial next step in the Museum’s ongoing efforts to preserve and share its rich history, while engaging the public with a broader, more accessible collection.
To shine a light on this project, we invite visitors to join us for a special event at the Museum as we delve into the untold stories of a diverse selection of objects from our collection. Documentation Project Manager Dr Aoife Cosgrove will provide a behind-the-scenes look at her work in the Museum, while also spotlighting a number of interesting items from the collection; including some which have never before been on public display. In her talk, Dr Cosgrove will explore the histories and mysteries associated with these objects, revealing their significance to the Museum and to the history of the printed word.
Attendees will have the opportunity to get an up-close look at the featured pieces through newly commissioned professional photographs, as well as view some objects first-hand.
Inspired by the National Heritage Week 2025 theme of “Exploring Our Foundations”, this talk will highlight how the National Print Museum’s collection came to be, while also looking ahead to its exciting future.
Free event, booking essential.
