Community Outreach Programmes

This workshop comprises two activities and is suitable for a maximum of 30 children per session. The group is divided in half with the first group participating in the first activity and the second group participating in the second activity. The groups will then switch over to allow each child the opportunity to complete both activities.

Working with artifacts from the Museum's collection, participants will compose and print their names in metal type. The participants will learn basic composing skills to construct their names, which will then be inserted into a 'WANTED' poster, and printed on the Farley Proofing Press, a key working piece of the Museum's collection.

Using origami techniques, participants will learn how to make old style printers hats. They will then have the opportunity to decorate their printers’ hats using markers, alphabetic paper cutters, decorative printed letters and image blocks from the Museum’s collection.

In this workshops participants will learn how to make one softback and one hardback book in the traditional manner. Using special tools, handmade paper and card, participants will create personal books that can later be used as diaries, notebooks or sketchbooks. This workshop is limited to a maximum of 12 children per session.
